Cynthia explains:

I start to write poetry in highschool. It was once some way for me to procedure feelings, to inform tales, and I temporarily discovered that I all the time sought after poetry to be part of my lifestyles. However who plans to be a poet as a occupation? And what if my poetry by no means left my pocket book? Numerous other people write only for themselves, to not proportion with the sector. Additionally, in maximum Black families the lifestyles objective is a nine to five task with advantages. So once I became eighteen I made a promise to myself with this tattoo to all the time write, regardless of the day task. I were given it at a hole-in-the-wall parlor in Spanish Harlem. The definition of bard is poet or one that recites within the oral custom. As a result when I’ve author’s block, I inform myself to snap out of it on account of this tattoo! (in the end it really works)

Cynthia shared the next poem, which initially seemed in 9 Mile Mag, Spring 2017, Vol four:
In My Heaven
    after RC Lewis

The whole thing starts with
starvation. Some crave Bartlett
pears, timber that breathe,
enjoying violin on gold roads.

Others best solution to their
animal names, understanding
which middle chamber calls

to the wolf, the sheep,
the jackal. In my heaven
the forex is phrases–
other people sing or recite

verb to noun to shop for
burgers and cake, furnishings
like extensive display screen TVs

that display favourite techniques
on loop without a commercials-
Soul Teach, I Dream of Jeanie,
and Satisfied Days.

Every nook of heaven
is guarded by means of statues
of poets. They grasp pens

as spears. While you rub
their stoned ft, you pay attention
dialects-dipped in Marian
Anderson arias.

In my heaven Ms. Rose
performs the numbers
and hits each week.

Our shadows communicate to different
shadows,  have smoke-shaped
tea or whiskey at midday.
They seek advice from bonfires

to turn their very best bureaucracy
within the gentle. While you flip
18, 35 or 68 in my heaven,

you lay on a mattress of tobacco
and ivy leaves, and the stems
safe haven as you watch stars
fade into every different.
